"Challenge Accepted" - An Introduction to the Quest 2012 intake and the dedicated staff.
The week started off like any other but this time with a goal in mind and our goal was to finish a job Mr. Schultz gave us and said if we finish putting up the poles on the “chill area” and set up the two new tents we get to hit Bulawayo with our “Quest swag” on Friday night! We were so pumped for this so we set out as quick as possible to finish the job! We had three teams with different jobs, one had to put up the poles on the chill centre which was quite strenuous and required some serious elbow grease.
Having been brought up in sub-urban England, the attraction of spending three months during my gap year in the Zimbabwean bush was irresistible. I was grateful that the course started so soon into the beginning of my gap year, as I got to kick starts my sixteen months of discovery with a perfect introduction. I had just left Tonbridge School where I was Head Boy and had taken four A-levels. My twin brother and deputy head Alex opted rather for a short internship with a London based Bank.

I didn’t understand the true power of it until Quest thrust me into its true application. Quest is a course, which I will never experience again- so I’ve tried to experience it to the fullest, live in the moment and cherish the breathtaking experiences thrown at me because- as sad as it is- they’re not coming again…'

Student, Shawn Allman (2011) - 'Quest has truly surprised me in many ways. Who knew that a course like this could bond 24 young men so tightly that we have become a family? Apart from the petty bickering and temporary moments of animosity, we have grown to love each other as friends and brothers. Strength in unity, something that is taught at Quest and only over this term have we come to understand it. The encouragement, compassion and commitment is irrefutable. We have truly become brothers.'
Student, Bongani Mhlangu - 'There aren’t many ways to describe Quest Africa, but if I had to describe it in one word it would be Life. Too many people get hung up on making plans and making sure everything is perfect but life is what happens in place of all your plans. Life is when you spend hour’s claying the pizza oven only so it can crack the next day, life is when you get all the way to Carlisle and you realize you’ve left the bucket behind. We’ve all come out of school where everything was planned for us and we didn’t really have to worry too much about coming up with alternatives and back up plans. Had we gone into the working world with that sort of mentality we would have been somewhat at a disadvantage. Quest teaches us how to cope with all that, and despite all the little conflicts that happen, I couldn’t think of another 23 people I’d rather be here with.'

Respect is an overriding rule at Quest. We all have different cultures, backgrounds and outlooks but above all we respected each other from day one. Quest has taught me the willingness to obey, be thankful and always consider my actions.

Student, Shawn Allman (2011) - 'Every young man has focused on developing himself into the man he was born to become. We have been building inner strength and a unique set of values for each one of us. We have learnt about whom we are and what we want to build on. It is a constant learning experience and new experiences and
lessons come by in abundance. Each young man is free to decide what he wants to take out of his learning and apply to his life. However there are some generic lessons that everyone is taking out. The one that has impacted me the most and that I think is so valuable is "character".'

The Quest course has come into my life, stayed 7 months, left footprints on my heart and I will never, ever be the same. Some people say that the eyes are the passageway to the heart; if that’s true and Quest has left footprints in my heart, then when I look in the mirror and stare back at myself I will see a reflection worth looking at.
